1212 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Jacob F. Smith is a representative business man of Barnesboro, where he is owner of the Smith and Palace theatres. He was born at Salineville, Ohio, June 18, 1878. He was ten years of age when his parents removed to East Liverpool, Ohio. They later lived at Elmwood, Ohio, where he attended school. He has always been interested in the theatrical business and for several years traveled with Barnum & Bailey as general agent. He was also connected with the John Robinson Company in the same capacity. He managed the opera house in Ellwood for 15 years and also was proprietor of the Majestic Theatre. After selling his interests there in 1914 Mr. Smith removed to Barnesboro, where he purchased the Grand Theatre and later built the Smith Theatre. He also purchased the Palace Theatre and the Northern Cambria County Advertising Company at Barnesboro. Mr. Smith has various other business interests and is identified with the Citizens Bank of Barnesboro and the Peoples National Bank at Ellwood.
    Mr. Smith married Miss Lola Raffery of Greensburg, Pa. To them were born two children: Jacob, died at the age of six months; and Dorothy Jean, born in 1920.
    In politics Mr. Smith is identified with the Republican party and he is a member of the Baptist Church.




    P. E. Kritzer is a progressive young business man of Emeigh. He was born in Jefferson County, Pa., Feb. 2, 1899, and is a son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Oris) Kritzer.
    Andrew Kritzer and his wife are natives of Europe. After their marriage they came to this country and settled in Jefferson County, Pa. They now live at Columbus, Ohio where Mr. Kritzer is identified with the Federal Glass Company. There were seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Kritzer, one of whom died in infancy.
    P. E. Kritzer spent his boyhood at Sagamore and Emeigh, and at the age of 16 years began work in the mines in the employ of the Cherry Tree Coal Company. Later he attended Indiana Normal School, after which he became identified with the Central Trading Corporation. He has served as manager in the local branch since 1924. G. E. Metzger, of Saint Benedict, is president, and F. N. Artley, of Spangler, general manager.
    On Dec. 10, 1924, Mr. Kritzer was married at Patton to Miss Catherine May Craver, of Emeigh, a daughter of Clark Craver, deceased.
