L. A. Bosserman was reared in East Berlin, where he attended the public schools and the Shippenberg Normal School, after which he engaged in teaching school for two years. In 1913 he came to Barnsboro as manager for the Hoveren Company, where he remained for six years, until 1922, when he was appointed postmaster. James R. Smith, of Barnsboro is a progressive citizen of the community in which he lives. He was born in Pine Township, Indiana County, Aug. 27, 1885, and is the son of Joseph and Susan (McCafferty) Smith. Joseph Smith, deceased, was a native of Pine Township, Indiana County, as was his wife. He was a farmer during his entire life and operated a farm near Barnsboro. He died in 1922 and his wife died May 17, 1912. They had two children: Barnard, lives at Clymer, Pa.; and James R., the subject of this sketch. James R. Smith attended the public schools and was 18 years of age when his family removed to Cambria County and settled on a farm. He had lived at Spangler for a number of years and in 1924 removed to Barnesboro, where he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Coal and Coke Company. In December, 1925, he established his present business. He is proprietor of the Pastime Billiard and Bowling Alleys. Mr. Smith is a Democrat, a member of the Catholic Church, and is affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus and Modern Woodmen of America. |
