HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1211

    L. A. Bosserman was reared in East Berlin, where he attended the public schools and the Shippenberg Normal School, after which he engaged in teaching school for two years. In 1913 he came to Barnsboro as manager for the Hoveren Company, where he remained for six years, until 1922, when he was appointed postmaster.
    Mr. Bosserman was married June 21, 1921, to Miss Bula McAnulty, a daughter of Frank and Orie McAnulty. The father died in 1922 and is buried in Barnsboro and Mrs. McAnulty resides with her children in the old home in Barnsboro. Mrs. Bosserman graduated from the Indian Normal school and before her marriage taught school for five years in the Barnsboro public schools. Mr. and Mrs. Bosserman have one son William, born Dec. 17, 1922.
    Mr. and Mrs. Bosserman are members of the Presbyterian Church. He is a director of the Citizens Bank, secretary and treasurer of the Star Printing Company, and has served on the Barnesboro council. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ebensburg, and the Elks of Henderson, Ky., and is a highly respected and dependable citizen.




    James R. Smith, of Barnsboro is a progressive citizen of the community in which he lives. He was born in Pine Township, Indiana County, Aug. 27, 1885, and is the son of Joseph and Susan (McCafferty) Smith.
    Joseph Smith, deceased, was a native of Pine Township, Indiana County, as was his wife. He was a farmer during his entire life and operated a farm near Barnsboro. He died in 1922 and his wife died May 17, 1912. They had two children: Barnard, lives at Clymer, Pa.; and James R., the subject of this sketch.
    James R. Smith attended the public schools and was 18 years of age when his family removed to Cambria County and settled on a farm. He had lived at Spangler for a number of years and in 1924 removed to Barnesboro, where he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Coal and Coke Company. In December, 1925, he established his present business. He is proprietor of the Pastime Billiard and Bowling Alleys.
    Mr. Smith is a Democrat, a member of the Catholic Church, and is affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus and Modern Woodmen of America.
