1210 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Harry W. Ling, an enterprising and well known young business man of Portage, is a veteran of the World War. He was born at Toledo, Ohio, March 20, 1891, and is the son of William R. and Mary (Hollinger) Ling.
    William R. Ling, who lives retired at Portage, was born in Bedford County, Pa. He spent a number of years in Ohio and until his retirement was employed on the railroad. He also conducted a general merchandise business at Portage for eight years. He is a Republican and a member of the Evangelical Church. His wife was born in Sandusky, Ohio, in 1862, and died in 1918. She is buried at Portage. To Mr. and Mrs. Ling three children were born: Elizabeth, married S.S. Reed, lives at Portage; Harry W., the subject of this sketch; and one child died in infancy.
    Harry W. Ling was reared and educated in Toledo, Ohio, and after coming to Portage engaged in business with his father until 1920, when he became owner and proprietor of the Madison Garden Billiard and Bowling Alleys, which are located on Main Street. This ranks among the leading amusement centers of the city and is well patronized.
    During the World War Mr. Ling enlisted in May 1917, and served in France with the 20th Engineers. He was discharged May 22, 1919.
    Mr. Ling is a Republican, a member of the Congregational Church and is affiliated with the Elks Lodge, No. 175, Johnstown, and Loyal Order of Moose, Portage. He is unmarried.




    L. A. Bosserman, the competent and well known postmaster of Barnesboro, is a native of East Berlin, Adams County, Pa., born June 10, 1883, a son of Amos F. and Sarah Jane (Mummert) Bosserman.
    Amos F. Bosserman was born at East Berlin, Pa., June 5, 1856. He was married in 1878 to Sarah Jane Mummert, who was born in 1858 at Bermudian, Adams County, Pa. She died in 1925 and is buried at East Berlin. Mr. Bosserman followed general farming his entire life and is now living on his farm at East Berlin. He has always taken an active interest in civic affairs and has held the office of school director, tax collector, and politically is a Republican. To Amos F. and Sarah Jane (Mummert) Bosserman three sons were born: Clayton, married Mary Criswell, lives at York, Pa.; Harper, married Mary Rhoades, Lives at York, Pa; and L. A., the subject of this sketch.
