HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1199

    On Sept. 22, 1903, Mr. Moore was united in marriage at Houtzdale, Pa., with Miss Emma Witherson, the daughter of William and Nellie (Parry) Witherson, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Moore have no children.
    Mr. Moore is a member of the Evangelical Church and Knights of Pythias. He is a Democrat.




    John Zickerhoof has long been numbered among the representative business men of Portage, where he has successfully engaged in the undertaking business for the past 30 years. He was born near Mewry, Blair County, Pa., March 7, 1852, and is the son of Alexander and Mary (Diehl) Zickerhoof.
    Alexander Zickerhoof, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil War. He was born in Blair County, Pa., in 1825 and died in 1905. Mr. Zickerhoof was a prosperous farmer of that section of Pennsylvania, where he spent his entire life. His first wife, Mary Diehl, died at the age of 30 years, leaving two children: Margaret, deceased, was the wife of Joseph Harland; and John, the subject of this sketch. Mr. Zickerhoof was later married to Miss Susan Stiffon, who is deceased. To this union the following children were born: Alex, lives in Clearfield County, Pa., Mary, married John Stroupe, lives at Tyrone, Pa.; Lloyd, lives at Bellwood, Pa.; Emma, married Harry Milling, lives at Tyrone; and Ashley.
    John Zickerhoof was reared on the home farm and attended the district schools of Blair County. He later lived in Clearfield County, where he engaged in mining and timbering for seven years. He spent several years at Lilly, Pa., and in 1895 removed to Portage, where he purchased the undertaking business of Charles Jones. Originally Mr. Zickerhoof conducted a hardware and furniture business in connection with his undertaking establishment.
    On Sept. 19, 1882, Mr. Zickerhoof was married to Miss Agnes Farren, at Wilmore, Pa. She is the daughter of John and Elizabeth (McConnell) Farren, both deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Zickerhoof have the following children: (1) John H., an electrician, lives at Lilly, married Miss Sarah Dailey, and they have the following children, David, Hazel, Leona, Irvin, Dorothy, Ruth and Reba, twins, Nora, Louise, and John, who is deceased; (2) Alexander, lives at Lilly, married Margaret Robin, and they have the following children: Margaret, Rita, deceased; Paul; Eleanor; Helen, and Earl, de-


Family research by Elizabeth Conway has shown that the spelling of "Zickerhoof" above, is actually "Tickerhoof".
