born June 28, 1921; Martin, born Aug. 25, 1922; and Mary Constance, born June 25, 1924. J. O. Davis, superintendent of the Ebensburg Coal Company. Colver, is a substantial and highly esteemed citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Pine Township, Indiana County, Pa., Feb. 5, 1886, and is the son of John S. and Martha (Anderson) Davis. John S. Davis, deceased was a native of Indiana County. He engaged in the lumber business during his entire life and also owned and operated a farm. He died Aug. 9, 1906, and his wife died November 1918. They are buried in McDowell Cemetery, Indiana county. Mr. Davis was a Republican and a member of the Baptist Church. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Davis, as Follows: Logan, lives at Armaford, Pa.; William, lives at Luzerne, Pa.; J.O., the subject of this sketch; Harry, lives at Hastings, Pa.; Spear, lives at Heshbon, Pa.; Thomas, lives at Colver, Pa.; John, a graduate if William and Jefferson College, Pennsylvania State College, and Carnegie Institute of Technology, supervisor of schools at Clymer, Pa., and World war veteran; and Elizabeth, married George Fleming, lives at Alverda, Pa. J. O. Davis attended the schools of Indiana and Cambria counties. He entered the employ of the Heyl & Patterson Construction Company as a structural iron worker and traveled throughout the world two years for this company. In 1905 he entered the mines at Heilwood, Pa., and was later promoted to mine foreman. He became associated with Graff Brothers as mine foreman at Roaring Run, Pa., in 1913, and three years later removed to Delancy, Pa., as superintendent of the Adrian mines. From there he went to Marianna, Pa., as superintendent of the Marianna mines in 1919, and two years later removed to St. Clairsville, Ohio, as assistant general superintendent of the Clarkson Coal Mining Company. The following year he came to Clover as superintendent of the Ebensburg Coal Company. In 1907 Mr. Davis was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Jane Williams, the daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth (Williams) Williams, natives of Indiana County, and both now deceased.
