| Remarks: | Joseph D. Gray, a veteran of the Civil War, died this morning at his home, 409 Woodland avenue, Seventeenth Ward, in his 86th year. He had been ill of a complication of diseases for the last five weeks. Joseph D. Gray was born in 1843 in Erie County, where he served in one of the companies from that county in the war from 1861 to 1865. He and Miss Mary Etta Masker were married in Warren County, this State, 62 years ago last July. They came to Johnstown in 1903. Mr. Gray to work for the Lorain Steel Company in the Seventeenth Ward. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gray, two of whom, Rose and Ralph Gray, have been dead for some time. The living, together with Mrs. Gray, are Alberta, wife of Eric Fredelus, of Sugar Grove, PA; Wilmer Gray, at home; Elwin Gray, of Vandergrift, Pa; Lillian, wife of Russell Carbaugh, of Forest avenue, and Bessie, wife of W. G. Constable, also of Forest avenue together with 12 grandchildren; a brother, J. A. Gray, who resides in the State of Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Dora Litty, who resides in New York State. Funeral services will be held at the Gray residence on Thursday afternoon by the Rev. W. L. Crawford, pastor of the Grove avenue Methodist Episcopal Church, with interment in Grandview Cemetery, Mr. Gray was identified with the Methodist church for many years. | |
