Dr. Gordon Albert Gress, 83, of Westmont, died on January 6, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born on June 18, 1937 in Meyersdale, PA.
In 1955, he graduated from Meyersdale High School and in 1959 graduated with high honors with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1959, he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1963, Dr. Gress graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. While in medical school, he received a three-month fellowship to study at Saint Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London, England. Upon returning, he served a one year internship with Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, PA. Dr. Gress was then drafted and spent two years in the US Army Weapons Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois. Afterwards, he completed a three-year residency of internal medicine at Saint Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Gress then practiced 46 years of medicine from 1970 until 2006 in Johnstown, PA. During this time, Dr. Gress was the co-director of the first coronary care unit located between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and was also named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Gress enjoyed over 57 wonderful years married to Mary Ann Gress, formerly Mary Ann London of Punxsutawney, PA. He will be deeply missed by his five children: Suzanne Weltz, Kristina Shealer, Jennifer Love, Gordon, and Melanie Guerriero, as well as their husbands and wife, and 12 grandchildren, his brother George, and sister Rosita (Owens), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
