| FORMER JOHNSTOWN MAN DIED IN KANSAS Alfred Constable Was Born in England, but Spent His Early Youth Here Bennington, Kan., Jan. 31. -- Alfred Constable was born at Horsham, County Sussex, England, November 17, 1829, and died at the home of his son, Forest, near Vine of this county, January 15, 1916, at the age of 86 years, one month and 29 days. When still a small boy his family moved to Johnstown, Pa., where on May 24, he was united in mariage to Mis Mary Rage, and to them were born 13 children, 12 of whom survive him, one having died in infancy. He has 51 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren all of whom survive him. In 1857 he was converted and united with the Evangelical Church, living a faithful Christian life in that chrch for 15 years. In 1872, he moved to Iowa where he united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. In the fall of 1877 he with his family moved to Ottawa County, Kansas, and living in this locality transferred his church membership to the Methodist Episcopal Church of Bennington and was a faithful membe of that church until the time of his death. He was devoted to his family, and a good and kind neighbor and friend, ever ready to lend assistance to anyone in need, thus attracting to him many friends by whom he was held in high esteem. Since the death of his wife, May 14, 1904, he had resied with his son, Forest. The children who survive him are: Mrs. W. H. Townsan, of Harlow, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie Myers and Mrs. J. S. Richards, of Minneapolis, Kansas; Mrs. George A. Miller, of Bennington, Mrs. Lee Taylor, of Manhattan, Kansas, Mrs. R. D. Cleavinger, of Toronto, Kansas; Noah L. and Forest D. Constable, of Vine; Robert L. Constable, of Niles; John H. George W., and Alfred G. Constable, of Bennington, Kansas. The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church of this city on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock an were conducted by his pastor, the Rev Darnell. Interment was made in Benningtn Cemetery. |
