| Daily Tribune, Johnstown PA; Monday, Dec 24, 1917 BRICKER--Mrs. John G. Bricker, whose maiden name was Sarah A. Phillippi, died between 5 and 6 o'clock last evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin A. Cover, 1143 Edson Avenue, Eighth Ward, where she and Mr. Bricker went from their residence 309 South Street, Sixth Ward, several months ago to remain for the winter. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Cover Home, the services to be conducted by the Rev. Earl C. Weaver, of the First United Brethren Church, and the Rev. Dr. J. I. L. Ressler, of the Conemaugh United Brethren Church. Private burial will be made in Grandview Cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers. Sarah Phillippi was born in 1844 at Laughlinstown, Westmoreland County, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Phillippi. She and John G. Bricker, who served in the Civil War in on of the Somerset County companies, were married at Mechanicsburgh, Westmoreland County, on February 28, 1867 by the Rev Joseph Metzgar of the U. B. Church. They came to Johnstown from the State of Indiana in 1882. Mr. Bricker survives his wife with a daughter Elda, wife of B. A. Cover of this city; a son, Ira Bricker, of Braddock; four grandchildren--Miss Margaret Cover, a student at the Indian State Normal School; Benjamin A. Cover, Jr., a freshman in the Johnstown High School, and Miss Sarah Bricker and Miss Sarah D. Bricker and Ira Bricker; two sisters--Mrs. William H. Uphouse and Miss Elsie Phillippi, of Oakhurst Borough, and three brothers--Lemon Phillippi of the Fifth Ward; George Phillippi of California, and Robert Phillippi, of Kentucky. The deceased was a member of the United Brethren Church for 55 years. She united with the denomination at Mechanicsburgh in 1862 and has been identified with the First Church since coming to Johnstown 35 years ago. Mrs. Bricker was also a member of the Women's Relief Corps, Axillary of Emory Fisher Post No. 30, Grand Army of the Republic. |
