ROBERT PHILSON.
Robert Philson, 59 years old, a native of Berlin, Somerset County, died there at 7:30 o'clock last evening following congestion of the lungs. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, when services will be conducted at 2 o'clock and interment will be at Berlin. Mrs. J. A. Philson, of Napoleon street, and Mrs. P. J. McGrath, of McConaughy street, will attend.
Robert Philson was one of Somerset County's most prominent and widely known citizens. He was a son of Samuel B. and Anna Philson, and a great-grandson of Robert Philson, the founder of Somerset County branch of the Philson family, who came from Ireland in 1785 and settled in Berlin, Robert Philson attended the public schools in Berlin and later enrolled as a student in Gettysburg College. He started to work in his father's banks at the age of 20 years, and became President when his father died. Mrs. Philson, who was Agnes Peterson before her marriage, died about ten years ago. The following children survive: Samuel and Benjamin, students at Columbia University; Anna, Marlon, at home. He was a brother of the following: Anna, wife of the Rev. William E. Fisher, of Shamokin; Miss Ella Philson, of Berlin; Samuel B. Philson, President of the Citizens' National Bank, Meyersdale, and H. Bunn Philson, of Berlin. |
