John Heppleman
John Heppleman, employed as a watchman on the railroad work being done by Sims & Co. at Ehrenfeld, was struck by a train near that place on Saturday evening and fatally injured. He was found about 8:30 o'clock and was still living but in a semi-conscious condition. After local physicians had done what they could for him, Heppleman was placed on board East line and sent to the Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, where he died about fifteen minutes after his arrival.
The only information he could give concerning the accident was in the words, "I saw it coming." When found he had dragged himself some distance from the tracks and had evidently been hurt for some time. It is supposed that he was struck by some fast east bound train.
Heppleman was related to a number of people at South Fork, although his home was somewhere near Pittsburg. He is survived by his wife only and was thirty-five years of age. The body was taken to South Fork to the residence of his brother-in-law at the Lake Hotel from which place it was shipped to Bedford county for burial. |
