| Johnstown Tribune, PA; April 18, 1898 Mrs. Sarah Rose, relict of Jacob Rose, expired at the home of her daughter--Mrs. George W. Miller--No 318 Cliff Street, Dale Borough at 4:15 o'clock this morning, after an illness of three weeks of dropsy. The deceased was born in Somerset County in 1826 and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Seese, deceased. She was a sister of William Seese of Kansas; Gillian, of Paint Township, Somerset County; Mrs. Elizabeth Berkebile, of Conemaugh Township, Cambria County; and Mrs Barbara Jomber, who resides in Ohio. Jacob Rose, husband of the subject of this notice, was murdered by John J. Seese in the vicinity of Scalp Level twenty-two years ago tomorrow. A quarrel between Seese and one of Mr. Rose's boys took place at the former's saw-mill, when the old gentleman stepped between them, and Seese dealt him a severe blow on the head with a club, fracturing his skull. He died a few hours later. Seese served six or seven years in the penitentiary for the crime and died some years after his release. Mrs. Rose is survived by the following sons and daughters: Susanna, wife of Frederick Young, of Kring's Station this county; David, of Paint Township, Somerset County; Emanuel of No 635 Bank Street, Dale; George J. of No 151 Horner Street, Seventh Ward; Barbara, wife of George W. Miller, mentioned above; Sarah, wife of Josiah Lehman, of Conemaugh Township, Somerset County and Daniel of the Seventh Ward. Funeral from the Berkey Dunkard Church at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning; interment in the church graveyard. |
