LLOYD, Jonathan

SOURCE NOTATION:
Cambria Freeman, 29 Sep 1905, Contributed by Patty Millich

Jonathan Lloyd, a well known and highly respected citizen of Ebensburg, died at his home here Saturday evening at 8:15 after a lingering illness from consumption, aged about 56 years.

Mr. Lloyd came to Ebensburg from Ohio many years ago and engaged in the lumbering business mostly as a jobber. Later he was employed by George and Joshua Berkey, composing the firm of Berkey Brothers, well known lumbermen of Blacklick township, with whom he worked several years. When his employers undertook a big lumbering project in Michigan, Mr. Lloyd went with them, but before the work was more than started, failing health caused him to return to Ebensburg where he again engaged in the business for himself in Cambria township. Mr. Lloyd also followed the occupation of threshing grain for a number of years, operating his machinery with a traction engine.

About 26 years ago the deceased was married to Mrs. Elizabeth James of this place who survives him. The deceased is also survived by one brother, Evan Lloyd, the well known shoemaker and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Reese, both of this place.

Mr. Lloyd's illness dates back about five years when he was a janitor at the Ebensburg public school building. He contracted a severe cold which turned to pneumonia and from that time until his death he was unable to engage in business again. Mr. Lloyd was beloved by all the school children where he was janitor and they have been paying their last tributes by sending offerings of beautiful cut flowers.

The funeral took place from the Calvinistic Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in Lloyd cemetery.

The Rev. Robert Humphreys, pastor of the Vine Street, Johnstown C. M. Church and the Rev. J. Tyson Jones of the Ebensburg Congregational Church conducted the funeral services; the deceased pastor, the Rev. W. B. Jones, being away from home on a vacation trip.
