Mrs. Lavina P. Howard

Lavina Peterson Howard, widow of David Howard, a Civil War veteran, whose death occurred here in 1906, died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. W. Decker, of 182 D street, Morrellville, in her 79th year. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Peterson, and was born in Jenner township, Somerset county. She and David Howard were married in this vicinity and resided on Haynes street for some years before locating in Morrellville in 1870. Her husband served in Company B, 133d Regiment, P.V.I. Mrs. Howard is survived by these daughters and sons: Mrs. H. K. Sheridan, of Cooper avenue; Mrs. Edmund Overdorff, of F street; Mrs. D. W. Decker, mentioned above, and Lawrence Howard, of Decker avenue. Besides these, the deceased is survived by 33 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Levi S. Peterson, of Moxham, is a nephew of Mrs. Howard. Funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. By the Rev. Dr. Preston C. Brooks, pastor of Calvary M. E. Church, and the Rev. J. O. C. McCracken, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will be made in Grandview Cemetery.
