Hastings Lad Killed By Kick of Horse

STRUCK UNDER EAR AND RECEIVES BROKEN NECK

Clarence Dillon of Hastings Kicked by Animal and Broken Neck Results in Death

Clarence, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dillon of Hastings, was instantly killed about 7 o'clock Sunday evening, when a horse kicked him, breaking his neck.

The boy and a sister a few years older than he went into a field to drive the horses and cows home for the night. The boy got too close to one of the horses, which kicked at him violently, one of its iron-shod hoofs striking the child just under the right ear.

Help was summoned by the little girl and efforts were made to revive the boy, but an examination showed that the neck was broken and that death was probably instantaneous. Deputy Coroner Dunsmore was notified.

The child's grandmother, Mrs. Patrick Dillon, died several days ago and was buried only Monday of last week.

Funeral services for the boy will be held probably on Wednesday morning in St. Bernard's Catholic church at Hastings. Interment in the church cemetery will be in charge of Unvertaken H.J. Easly.
