W. J. BUCK IS DEAD.

William J. Buck, of Allegheny township, one of the best known men in northern Cambria county, died at his home at “Buck’s Mills,” Saturday evening aged 82 years. Mr. Buck was born in Allegheny township in 1829, and from the time he was a young man, was actively engaged in business. Upon the Buck farm there was an old grist mill, a saw mill, and country store, and these three enterprises prospered to a great extent especially after the war, for many years furnishing the people of the north of the county with their only near-by supply of groceries, feed, flour and lumber. Mr. Buck continued the store until the time of his death, but a great change in times materially lessened the business and practically closed the mills.

The deceased was married when a young man to Miss Mary Glass, of Allegheny township, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Glass. His wife preceded him to the grave over two years ago.

Mr. Buck is survived by eleven children, viz: Mrs. Gussie Bengele, widow of the late Joseph Bengele, of Gallitzin; Henry J. Buck of Carroll township; Emma, wife of Edward Boes, of Allegheny township; Annie, wife of Isadore C. Campbell, of Gallitzin; Ida, wife of Jerome Dawson, of Gallitzin; Alex J. Buck, of Cresson; Charles F. Buck, of Harrisburg; Andrew M., Albert and Edward, at home; and D.A. Buck of Carrolltown.

The funeral took place Tuesday morning, when a requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic church at Loretto, of which the deceased was a life-long member, interment following in St. Michael’s Cemetery, adjoining the church.
