Sudden Death of Jacob Wertz

Mr. Jacob Wertz, of Stonycreek township, with others from this neighborhood, departed a few days ago for North Manchester, Indiana, to attend the annual meeting of the Dunkards. On his way he was attacked with illness and continued on his journey fifty miles further to Bourbon, Indiana, where his sister, Mrs. Lint, resides. He continued to grow worse, and Mr. P. A. Cobaugh, of this place, on Thursday last, received a telegram from a Mr. Myers, of Bourbon, announcing that Mr. Wertz had died there on the previous evening. The remains were brought here on Friday and taken to the family residence in Stoneycreek township. The interment took place on Sunday at the family grave yard on the farm. Mr. Wertz was born in Paint township, Somerset County, August 31, 1815, and moved to Stoneycreek township, this county, in 1844. In June, 1837, he was married to Mary Hoffman. They had 13 children, six of whom are living, namely, John, J.M. and George; Lizzie, wife of Mr. Menely, Susan, wife of Samuel Harrison, and Catharine, wife of John Harshberger.
