JOHN W. COOK.

John W. Cook, one of the best known citizens of Hollidaysburg, died at Harrisburg at 1:45 o'clock Saturday morning last after an illness of about two months, believed to have been superinduced by an injury to his left eye some two years ago, a piece of steel having penetrated the eye at that time. Two weeks ago, by the advise of his physician, Mr. Cook was removed to the hospital at Harrisburg, but he grew gradually worse and death came at the hour last stated. His remains were taken to Hollidaysburg Sunday morning and buried Monday.

John W. Cook was born near Cologne, Germany, Feb. 9, 1836, so that he was 59 years of age lacking 20 days at the time of his decease.

The subject of this notice was married in 1862 to Miss Matilda Eger, of Carrolltown, Cambria county, who with eight children, survived to mourn the loss she has sustained. The children are: Benjamin W. of Bellwood; Mrs. Sophia Dornington of Pittsburg; John of Gaysport; Francis X. of Crafton, W. Va.; Mrs. Elizabeth Pope of Hollidaysdurg (sic) and Harry, Leo, Renie and Victor, who are at home. He is also survived by one brother, Harry of Crafton, W. Va., and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Mehen of Philadelphia; Mrs. Gertrude Metzger of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. A. Fogle of Altoona.
