John Warsing

Mr. John Warsing, one of the oldest citizens in Coopersdale, died suddenly at his home at No 289 Main street, at 10:10 o'clock yesterday morning, after a brief illness, the cause of death being apoplexy. He had been employed as a railroader for the Cambria Iron Company, and was at work on Saturday. On Sunday morning he attended divine service in the Coopersdale Methodist Episcopal Church, and on Sunday evening attended class meeting in the same church, but was not at the evening preaching service on account of the rough weather.

On Sunday night he went to bed at his usual hour - appearing in good health, and about 8 o'clock yesterday morning he was awakened by a severe pain in his head. The members of the family did all in their power to relieve him, but without avail, and he died, as stated above.

Mr. Warsing was born near Woodbury, Bedford County, on June 8, 1827, and when about eighteen years of age was brought to Cambria Furnace, West Taylor Township. After living there for some time they moved to Slackwater, near Conemaugh Furnace, where his mother died. In 1849 he was married to a young lady of Blacklick. They made their home in Armstrong County, where Mr. Warsing's father died, and about 1879 he and his family moved to this city and have lived in the vicinity ever since.

Beside his wife, Mr. Warsing is survived by seven children, viz: Rachael, wife of Carlisle Kirkwood, of the Twelfth Ward; Lucy, wife of Campbell Hess, of Coopersdale; Thomas, of Morrellville; Samuel of Rosedale; George, of Coopersdale; Miss Martha, who is lying critically ill at the Memorial Hospital, and Sarah, widow of the late James Cauffield, who was killed about twelve years since in the Cambria Yard. His daughter Jessie was drowned in the Great Flood. She was a domestic for the late Dr. William Beam, of Locust street. Deceased is survived by one brother - Samuel Warsing - of Indiana Furnace; his sister - Mrs. Eliza J. Davis - died on September 10th, last year, at the Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Warsing joined the Methodist Episcopal Church about twenty-five years ago, and when he moved to Coopersdale he had his certificate transferred to that church, Rev. Bell being pastor at the time. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon. Rev. L. McGuire will conduct the obsequies at 1 o'clock in the Coopersdale M. E. Church, after which interment will be made in the Benshoff's Cemetery, West Taylor Township.
