Young Man Killed While Hunting

Edward Roarbaugh Found Dead In
the Woods at Summerhill This Morning.

Edward, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Roarbaugh, of Summerhill this county, accidentally shot and killed himself last evening while out after rabbits.

About 4 o'clock in the afternoon he picked up his double-barreded shotgun at home and told his mother that he was going back of the old stone quarry, which is about two hundred yards from the house, to spend an hour or two in search of game.

On account of his failing to return by 8 o'clock, his parents became alarmed and informed a number of neighbors, who procured lanterns and searching in the woods until 7 o'clock this morning, when Harry Nipps found the young man's body lying behind a large log on a brush heap, with the gun in his hands.

Upon examination it was found that the gun was empty and that the back of the young manys head was covered with shot wounds. It is thought that he was standing on the log, possibly with the gun behind him, when the weapon in some manner was discharged.

The remains were not removed until 9 o'clock this morning, the friends fearing an inquest might be necessary on account of the manner in which the young man met his death. At that hour, Undertaker George, of South Fork, prepared them for burial. Coroner Frank Livingston, of Salix, has not been notified notified to make an investigation, and thinks, judging from what he has heard, an inquest will not be necessary. The parents of the young man are satisfied that the shooting was accidental.

An old lady who lives not far from where the body was found said she heard a gun shot between 4 and 5 o'clock last evening, but paid no attention to it.

Edward Roarbaugh was a member of the Lutheran Church at Summerhill, and was highly esteemed in the community. He was about twenty years of age, and worked for his father in his lime kiln. He had been working up to the hour he started for the woods yesterday afternoon.

The funeral will take place at 1 o'clock on Monday afternoon, when Rev. A. B. Erhard of Wilmore, will conduct the obsequies in the Lutheran Church at Summerhill. Interment will be made in the church graveyard.
