He then worked in the mines and in 1910 came to the United States and settled at Dixonville, Pa., where he was connected with the Springfield Coal Company. In 1917 he was appointed mine foreman of Victor Mine No. 45 at Clymer, and three years later was transferred to Bald Hill as superintendent of the Bald Hill Coal Company. Mr. Davidson came to Nanty Glo in March, 1925, as superintendent of the Springfield Coal Company. H. C. Zimmerman is a reliable citizen and successful business man of Expedit, where he has been identified with the Big Bend Coal Company for more than 20 years. He was born at Oak Hill, Clearfield County, Pa., Nov. 24, 1881, and is the son of William and Elizabeth (Yothers) Zimmerman William Zimmerman, deceased, was a native of Center County, Pa. He was born Jan. 7, 1860, and died in 1919. His wife was born in Clearfield County, Pa., Dec. 19, 1862, and died in 1907. Mr. Zimmerman began life as a farmer. Later he was employed as a stage driver between Karthaus and Clearfield, Pa., carrying the mails. He purchased a farm of 70 acres near Oak Hill and engaged in general farming and stockraising until 1917, when he retired and removed to Karthaus. He was a Republican and for a number of years served as school director. He held membership in the Methodist Church and Independent Order of Odd Fellows. To Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman nine children were born, as follows: H. C., the subject of this sketch; Howard, deceased; Ralph, lives at Gallet, New Mexico; Edna, married H. D. Woodling, lives at Expedit; Anna, lives at Pitcairn, Pa., where she is identified with the Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Company; James, lives at Pitcairn, Pa., is a World War veteran, |
