became associated with the Berwin-White Coal Company as mine electrician. Two years later he became identified with the Merchants Coal Company of Boswell, Pa., as chief electrician, and in 1908 went to Bakerstown, Pa., where he served as chief electrician for the Sterling Coal Company until 1911. He then came to Nanty Glo as chief electrician at Nanty Glo Mine No. 14, Webster Coal and Coke Company. In April, 1925, Mr. Adams established his present business. He is a widely known inventor of electrical appliances. Among his important inventions are the automatic auxiliary lights for emergency use in public buildings, automatic sanding device for all types of locomotives, automatic control phrase failing switch, mine, locomotive and street car automatic headlights.
    On July 22, 1912, Mr. Adams was married to Miss Dorothy Fitzpatrick, the daughter of James and Anna (Gibson) Fitzpatrick, natives of Scotland. He was born May 5, 1861, and his wife was born May 9, 1867. They were settlers of Tennessee and later removed to Bakerstown, Pa., where they reside. To Mr. and Mrs. Fitzpatrick seven children were born: Margaret, Norman, and Jemima, all deceased; Dorothy Adams; Anna, lives at home; Elizabeth, married Bernard McGlen, lives at Nanty Glo; and Frances, lives at home. To Erwin and Dorothy (Fitzpatrick) Adams seven children have been born: Ruth Anna, born Feb. 22, 1914; Dorothy May, born March 12, 1916; James, born June 8, 1918; Stella, born Jan. 26, 1920; Irene, born Nov. 22, 1921; DeVere and VeVon, twins, born in 1924, both deceased.
    Mr. Adams is a Republican and a member of the Methodist Church. He and his family have a wide acquaintance and are highly esteemed.




    Bernard S. McDermott is among the well liked and successful business men of Expedit, where he is proprietor of the McDermott Hotel. He was born at Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, Pa., July 6, 1891, and is the son of Patrick and Alice (O'Farrell) McDermott.
    Patrick McDermott was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1860. He came to this country in 1881 and settled at Osceola Mills, where he worked in the mines. Before coming to this country Mr. McDermott served in India for six years with the British army. He died Dec. 9, 1918, and is buried in Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg. Mr. McDermott was a Republican, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Loyal Order of Moose and the
