union a son, Herman C., was born in 1909. He ranks high as a student and in a contest conducted by the Literary Digest in 1925, won second place.
    Politically Mr. Daugherty is a Republican and he has served as a member of the Select Council, Seventeenth Ward, for three years. He holds membership in the United Brethren Church and Knights of Malta.
    Isaac L. Daugherty, brother of Samuel M. Daugherty, was born in Cambria County, Feb. 14, 1884. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the beginning of the World war and was sent to Panama, with Company E., Third Engineers. He was drowned June 27, 1918, while swimming at Panama, and his body never recovered. Private Daugherty was an excellent soldier and was universally like by his officers and fellow soldiers. He was a professional boxer and one of the best in his class, his professional engagements taking him from coast to coast. He trained in Philadelphia and other large cities and met such well know boxers as Lundie.




    J.J. Dugan, assistant comptroller for the Penn Public Service Company, is a native of New York. He was born in Olean, Jan. 3, 1892, and is a son of Timothy and Ellen (Sheehey) Dugan.
    Timothy Dugan was born in Belmont, N.Y., and his wife was a native of Ireland. He was employed by the Standard Oil Company practically his entire life and was pensioned by this company of Jan. 2, 1926, having served faithfully and honestly for a great many years. He and his wife live at Olean. They are members of the Catholic Church and Mrs. Dugan belongs to the Ladies' Catholic Benevolent Association. They are the parents of seven children, as follows: D.F., Olean; Mary, married E.T. Dunn, resides in Olean; J.J., the subject of this sketch; Ella, married W.T. Jacquett, resides in Hoboken, N.J.; Kathryn, married N. Halsey, Olean; Rose, and Ruth, residents of Olean.
    J.J. Dugan was reared and educated in Olean. He graduated from the Olean High School in 1910. and from the Westbrook Commercial Academy in 1911. He then entered the offices of the Olean Electric Light and Power Company. Later he was transferred to the Western New York & Pennsylvania Traction Company, then to the Washington-Virginia Railroad Company, where he served as auditor. He was with the Erie Lighting Company, later the Penn Public Service Company, as assistant treas-
