1224 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    T. M. Mitchell was born in Clearfield County. He followed general farming and stockraising and was also interested in the lumber business for a number of years. He served throughout the Civil War with an Illinois regiment and died Dec. 17, 1905. Mr. Mitchell held many public offices and was a life long member of the Methodist Church. His wife, Emma (Weaver) Mitchell, was born in Clearfield County, the daughter of James H. and Sarah Ann (Campbell) Weaver. James H. Weaver died March 2, 1905. His wife was born in White Deer Township, Union County, Pa., March 23, 1822, and died at the age of 103 years, Oct. 15, 1925. She was eight years of age when her parents settled in Clearfield County on what is now known as Wrigley farm. She was among the prominent and interesting pioneer women of Pennsylvania. On her 102nd birthday she received a congratulatory letter from President Calvin Coolidge, which she highly prized.
    Emma (Weaver) Mitchell, who lives at Burnside, Pa., is 80 years of age. She has the following children: Mrs. Cora Rorabaugh, lives at New Washington, Pa.; A. D., the subject of this sketch; O. W., lives at Portage; Jerome T., deceased; James M., lives at Burnside, Pa.; Lester, Fred and Sadie, all deceased; and Charles G., lives on the old homestead in Clearfield County.
    A. D. Mitchell spent his boyhood in Clearfield County and attended the public schools. He also attended Ohio Normal University at Ada, Ohio. For a number of years he engaged in the meat business at Portage and in 1922 was appointed postmaster of Portage. He then disposed of his meat business.
    Mr. Mitchell was married to Miss Zula Henderson, of Burnside, Pa., the daughter of E. S. and Jennie (Conner) Henderson, residents of Burnside. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell have four children: Lynn E., lives at Portage, married Emily Sappett and they have two children, William and Thomas; Torrence E., lives in Pittsburgh, Pa., is a World War veteran; Pauline V., and Frederick, both at home.
    Politically Mr. Mitchell is a Republican. He has served as president of the Portage council. He holds membership in the Evangelical Church and is highly esteemed in the community.
