born to Mr. and Mrs. Siberts: Edward, born March 31, 1902; Hazel, born June 11, 1905, a graduate of Hastings High School, Indiana State Normal School; William, born Feb. 27, 1911; Dorothy, born Aug. 15, 1914; Pauline, born Nov. 14, 1916; Robert, born Sept. 7, 1919; and Donald, born April 24, 1923. Andrew Lantzy is a highly esteemed citizen and successful business man of Hastings, where he is engaged in the coal business. He was born in Elder Township, Cambria County, Aug. 19, 1859, and is a son of John and Mary (Whitehead) Lantzy. John Lantzy was born near Spangler in 1826 and died in 1901. In early life he engaged in the lumber business and later operated a farm in Susquehanna Township. He served as justice of the peace and was a member of the Catholic Church. His wife was born in Huntingdon County in 1828 and died in 1907. To Mr. and Mrs. Lantzy 16 children were born, of whom Andrew, the subject of this sketch, was eighth in order of birth. Andrew Lantzy spent his boyhood on his father's farm and attended the district school. He engaged with his father in the lumber business until 1888, at which time he moved to Hastings, where he engaged in the hotel business. Two years later he engaged in the wholesale liquor business and in 1897 he engaged in the livery business with A. B. Clark. After several years Mr. Lantzy went to Pittsburgh, but the following year returned to Hastings and conducted the Lafayette Hotel for two years, after which he engaged in the wholesale liquor business for eight years. He then returned to the hotel business as proprietor of the Central Hotel, which he conducted for two years. Since 1917 he has been associated in business with B. A. Lantzy and A. B. Clark, the business being known as the Lantzy & Clark Coal Company. Mr. Lantzy is a director of the First National Bank of Carrolltown, and the Hastings Bank of Hastings. On Aug. 9, 1881, Mr. Lantzy was united in marriage with Miss Martha C. Woodley, of Pittsburgh, a daughter of Peter and Mary (Hipps) Woodley, both deceased. A son, Thomas Andrew, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lantzy. He died in infancy. |
