    On Aug. 31, 1925, Mr. Lord was united in marriage with Miss Subina Lewis of Hastings, a daughter of William and Bessie (Commons) Lewis.
     Mr. Lord is a Republican and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He has a wide acquaintance in the community and is well liked.




    B. J. Waltz, justice of the peace and notary public, ranks among the prominent citizens of Hastings, where he is also extensively engaged in business. He was born at Carrolltown, Cambria County, Sept. 11, 1869, and is a son of George M. and Ellen (Stoltz) Waltz.
     George M. Waltz, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil war. He was born in Blair County, Pa., in March, 1837, and at an early age came to Cambria County with is parents, and settled at Glenn-Connel, now St. Lawrence, and later in life moved to Carrolltown, where he followed his trade of carpentry for many years. He died Oct. 12, 1920, and is buried at Carrolltown. During the Civil war Mr. Waltz served with Company D, One Hundred Tenth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, as a corporal.
     Ellen (Stoltz) Waltz was born at Carrolltown, Pa., may 1, 1840, the daughter of John and Barbara Stoltz, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Alsace-Lorraine. Mrs. Waltz resides at Carrolltown. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Waltz, as follows: Mrs. henry Cole, lives with her mother at Carrolltown; William H., Olive, in Baltimore, Md.; B. J., the subject of this sketch; H. G. Waltz, lives at Carrolltown; Mrs. Estelle White, lives at Olean, N. Y.; Herman, deceased; Augusta, deceased, was the wife of M. S. Schroth, Carrolltown; Mary, deceased; and A. C., lives at Lean, N. Y.
     B. J. Waltz spent his boyhood at Carrolltown and received his education in the public schools. In 1886 he removed to Johnstown, Pa., where he received employment in the mercantile business for two years. He then came to Hastings, where he became engaged in the mercantile business, and later formed a partnership with P. B. Cosgrove, and H. J. VanDusen. This partnership continued until Mr. Cosgrove's death, after which it was conducted by Mr. VanDusen and Mr. Waltz. Mr. VanDusen died March 10, 1926, and Mr. Waltz is now carrying the business alone. This is among the leading mercantile businesses of this section. Mr. Waltz has been interested in the insurance business since 1915. He has served as notary public since 1918 and as justice of the peace since January, 1926.
