716 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

Kirkpatrick, natives of Cambria County. Mr. Kirkpatrick is chief of police and street commissioner of Spangler.
    In politics Mr. Lehmier is identified with the Democratic party and he has served as a member of the council since November, 1920, and as its president since 1924. He holds membership in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of St. George, and Chamber of Commerce.




    Alfred Schofield, burgess of South Fork, is a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of Cambria County. He was born at Ossett, England, Nov. 17, 1875, and is the son of Isaac and Mary (Wood) Schofield.
    Isaac Schofield was born in England in 1850. In 1884 he came to this country and lived in Philadelphia for several years, after which he returned to England. Later he again came to the United States and settled in Ohio. After a short time he removed to South Fork, where he lives retired. During his active career Mr. Schofield was a miner. His wife is deceased and is buried at South Fork. To Mr. and Mrs. Schofield the following children were born: John, deceased; Alfred, the subject of this sketch; Henry, Thomas, Arthur, and Nellie, married Daniel Sanders, lives at South Fork.
    Alfred Schofield spent his boyhood at Maynard, Ohio, and was educated in the public schools. He was interested in the coal mining industry until 1905, at which time he was elected burgess of South Fork. He has served in this office continually since that time with the exception of the period from 1909 until 1913. He has also served as justice of the peace since 1907.
    On Sept. 6, 1896, Mr. Schofield was united in marriage with Miss Ethel E. Wysel, the daughter of William and Anna (Berkebile) Wysel, of South Fork. They have six children: Harold; May, married Charles Fisher, lives at Conemaugh, and they have two sons, William and Charles; Arthur C., Cleveland, Ohio; Thomas W., Cleveland, Ohio; Esther and George, both at home.
    Politically Mr. Schofield is identified with the Republican party. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Elks and Eagle lodges, and Redmen of the World. During his long term of office Mr. Schofield has been a capable and efficient officer.
