Doctor and Mrs. Mayer were married ten days when the Johnstown Flood occurred and made them homeless. During the flood Doctor Mayer used his best efforts in helping those who were less fortunate than he and later became one of the organizers of the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital Association, in which he was a prominent figure for many years. He served on the medical staff at the Eighth Ward institution and was a lecturer in Nurses' Training School for a number of years. He served as president of the Cambria County Medical Society in 1896. Evan M. DuPont is recognized as one of the leading business men of Johnstown, where he is president of the Johnstown Traction Company. He was born in Louisville, Ky., Dec. 15, 187, and is the son of Biderman and Ellen (Coleman) DuPont. Biderman DuPont, decreased, was a native of Wilmington, Del. At an early date he removed to Louisville, Ky., where he engaged in the paper manufacturing business. He later operated the street railway system there and was a coal mine operator. After coming to Johnstown, Mr. DePont organized the Johnstown Steel Car Company. He died in November, 1923. His wife died in 1876.
